| The name, Bharatanatyam, can be broken into four parts, which are the four
essentials of the art form. Bha-comes from Bhavam, which means facial
expression. Ra-comes from the word Raga, which is the music or song the
dance is set to. Ta-comes from the word, Talam, which is the song's meter
and Natyam is the word for dance. It is the art of telling a story through
the use of various hand motions, facial expressions and intricate footwork. |
